Global Financial Development Report: Rethinking the role of the state in finance published by World Bank. “The worldwide financial crisis has severely affected the livelihoods of millions of people around the world, bringing into relief the role of financial systems in economic development and poverty reduction. The crisis has also prompted many observers to reassess state interventions in the financial systems, from regulation and supervision of financial institutions and markets, to competition policy, to state guarantees and state ownership of banks, and to enhancements in financial infrastructure. But the crisis does not necessarily negate the considerable body of evidence on these topics accumulated over the past few decades.”
