Fiscal Space by Mark Zandi, Xu Cheng and Tu Packard published by Moody’s Analytics and indicated by Alvaro Manoel. “More than two years after the end of the Great Recession, the global economy cannot seem to shake its effects. Advanced economies are still struggling to grow, unemployment in the U.S and Europe remains near double digits, and Japan is stuck in a 20-year slump. The most serious impediment to stronger growth is arguably fiscal, as governments in advanced economies struggle with record budget deficits and burgeoning debt loads. Policymakers are attempting to strike a balance, imposing enough fiscal austerity to reassure global investors, but not so much or so quickly that they undermine nascent recoveries.”
