"Fiscal policy is back, largely as a consequence of the very severe, prolonged Great Recession/global financial crisis that led into the challenges facing monetary policy as it was forced to confront the limitations presented by the Zero Lower Bound (ZLB). But the practice of fiscal policy remains subject to some controversy, related to long-standing issues as well as ones of relatively recent vintage. Rethinking Macroeconomic Policy (PIIE)
The Peterson Institute will hold a conference on "Rethinking Macroeconomic Policy", coordinated by Olivier Blanchard and Lawrence H. Summers, the event was indicated by Monica de Bolle. "Academic experts and policymakers will address the challenges to macroeconomic thinking and policymaking that today's economic environment presents-low inflation despite low unemployment, the apparent interactions of rising inequality and stagnating productivity, and the unresponsiveness of longtem interest rates to rising public debt, among others."
